Coffee Nations [Closed]

What will attract you most in a cafe?

The beverages?

*

The food?

*
The service aka the people?

*

You can get food, beverages and service in any places that sell food from high class restaurants to low cost kopitiam. So why do people likes to hang out in cafes?

You can see Parisians sipping coffee/tea in any hour of the day. They could be just chatting with friends, or reading a book or even just people watching. It's a lifestyle to them.

In my opinion, I seek most the "comfy feeling" from a cafe. It must be a place where I can just laze around, seeking "escape" from my normal life. This is different from Starbucks or akin, where the main selling point is just their coffee/tea, rather than creating a lifestyle or a comfy ambience for people to meet.

Enuff saying. Let's check out this new cafe aka " The Coffee Nations" along Bali Lane ( opposite Raffles Hospital). It's centrally located in Bugis, but in a "secluded" area, which is just nice if you are finding somewhere quiet and cozy yet accessible ( 5-10mins walk from Bugis station).

Random Post

9:33:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Havent been really searching for good places to eat lately. Please accept my most sincere apology!!!

*Shed some tears*

But please, spare a thought for my increasing waistline and decreasing bust line ( in comparsion mah =p ) Then again, I guess noble few need to "sacrifice", and I'm no exception.

* crabs crawling by.... *

Well, the truth is my partner aka bf is too busy flying around, so I have no where to "dump" the unfinished food. Hahahaha

Okay, just some random photos to entice those who bother to visit my blog... hee

September is the best month because it's my birthday month!!! See, my bf very sweet ar, turned up at my door at 1145pm the day before so that I could sleep at 12am and he would be the first to greet "Happy Birthday" to me. And yeah, my favourite mango mouse cake, from BakerInn. Yum Yum, Delicious!

Forgive me for the super ugly background aka newspaper, but it was late at night and cant expect me to "blink" a pretty pink table cloth out mah... So, just photoshot with your own eyes, meaning ignore lah! =p

My Pre-Bdae Meal

Coz my bdae falls on a Tuesday this year, and I cant convince The Line to change their "Seafood Harvest" from a Thursday to a Tuesday, so I guess I just have to make do with a pre-bdae meal first. We went to this Japanese Resturant at the Taka Basement 1, which I cant remember the name... The one lah, that one lor... u know one hor?

The food is still passable but one thing I like about them is they serve small dishes. I love varieties!! So this allow me to order many small dishes to eat without stuffing ourselves. Nice! ^_^

Mocha Milk with Red Beans

I think almost the drinks selection, this is the best! We tried the mocha soda the other time and it really tasted like some other CO2 drink from the can. Try this if you like mocha, milk and red beans.. keke

Pan Fried Scallops with Mushrooms

Silly bf dun like to eat scallops, so being a considerate gf:

Me: You dun like to eat hor, I eat the bigger ones lor... You just eat the small ones and mushrooms bah

Bf: Okie

Btw, there were 6, so by right, each takes 3 rite?

Bf: You take one more lah...

* Dark Smile - in hokkien, but then still must act like very 难为情, cannot be too eager*

Me: If you insist.... ok lorrrrrrrrrr

Within 5 seconds, the last scallop was gone!

Curry Rice with Chicken

Ordered this so that we wont go hungry like 1 hour after the meal mah. Stategize mah.. 我是心机很重的人!

Pumpkin Croquette

Dory in Cream Sauce

Bf's favourite. He orders this whenever we go to this resturant and eat everything with the sauce.

My Post-Bdae Meal, with Friends - Part 1

Yeah! One of my favourite Japanese Restaurant! See Review if you like to find out more!

Sushi Balls

So kawaii right? They serve sushi in the shape like fishballs... keke. But then too small lah, eat liao machiam never eat anything..

Amaebi Sushi

They dun have offer for amaebi liao, and amaebi sashimi is too expensive ($25), so I make do with just a sushi ($5, okay??!!??). Sad wor, cannot eat the prawn head cracker liao. But then, it still taste good! I went to other places to eat amaebi before, but I think Kuriya's still the best!

Egg Omelette with Spicy Roe

Another side dish to share. It's not spicy at all! In case, there are people like me who will sweat eating laska, dun worry! Sure can eat one... Then again, it's very omelette, nothing special lei..

Mushroom Soba

Warm Soba with Duck & Poached Egg

My Order. At first I thought mine is a cold noodles, and thought they had served wrongly. Turned out that I was supposed to dip the cold noodle in the soup base for them to become warm.. " Tedious" to eat a bowl of hot noodles!

Cold Soba with Duck & Poached Egg

Due to some "unfortunate events", my bdae treat at The Line is postponed! So now I'm still waiting.....

Stay tuned!

My Weekend "Tai Tai" Entry

10:09:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

The Scene: Daydream started on 12th Friday afternoon.... ^_^

********

Was feeling slightly mundane, I decided to catch a coach to KL to shop. As usual, I only take the best, so I hopped onto Aeroline coach which offers ergonomic reclining seat, light meal, bottomless hot beverages ( Yes, milo too!) and a full time steward( ress, if you are lucky, mine is a steward). It's as good as traveling on a plane but less the hassle of check-in and airport transfer. In approximately 5 hours, the coach took me straight to KLCC, which was nearby the service apartment I was going to stay. And yes again, the best and so I arrived at The Ascott.

The moment I walked in, there was a big living room and a dining table.

On the right, I had the twin bedroom to put all my shopping bags.

On the left, I had the double bedroom ~> NO ENTRY, PRIVATE INVITATION only. Well, I shall disclose pictures of the bathroom instead. A standing shower, a bathtub and big basins... Hmm, I just love big bathroom. Thoughtful of the hotel, to provide me with my favourite Locitanne toiletries ...

Kitchen was such redundant! Why would a Tai Tai needs one? Hmm,perhaps to keep my expensive ampoules. And ya, indeed I brought along with me... Let me put them in the fridge..

Day One ended off with a long shower and a face mask. I was not here to exhaust myself... Off to bed!

********

Day Two:

Wanted to go for a run. Had been trying to shed off some fats, but was not quite successful. Anyway, slept late and so the run had to be procrastinated ( as usual...). Well, that kinda explained why the slimming was not successful... Ha.. I guess a visit to Slimming Santuary should be easier... Money can make the world go round, isnt it?

Washed up and went to KLCC, Sungei Wang, Lot10 in the afternoon. Dint manage to spot anything that I like, shopping in Europe is much better. I just had to settle with a fulfilling dinner..

Virgin Strawberry Margarita

Grilled Lobster

Tacos

It was still early when backed in hotel. Ah Ha, I shall go for a spa treatment. Indeed, spa treatment is definitely associated with Tai Tai lifestyle. How could I miss it out?

********

Day Three:

Finally woke up early enough to go to the gym. Half an hour workout was not too bad, especially in a gym that was exclusive... Washed up and time to go back Singapore...

* DONG!! DONG!! DONG!!*

Back to reality.... -_______-|||

I'm at KL right now!!

10:08:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Yo! Guess what? I'm now typing this entry in KL, Msia!! ^__^

It's really a R&R weekend getaway, no planned itinerary, no urgency, simply just do what I want!!

The hotel room is GIGANTIC & NICE, 2 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 living room, COOL! Thanks to bf's boss, even though it is not exactly meant for me (I sort of like bunk in mah) Whatever...

The best part is we can order anything we want for room service, just charged to the room! Really feel like a KING... But then, the food is not really tasty, so I guess I never really miss out a lot by not ordering room service in the past...

I'm going to take a long shower later on, polly do a mask while eating tiramisu and ice-cream on the bed. And ya, the hotel gives Loccitane toiletries, I will 'kapo' everything! Yeah!

Tml gonna gym to do a quick run, have breakie and then it's shopping time!!

Shall post the hotel photo when I'm back in Singapore...

Olright ppl, I'll need to resume my make-believe "tai-tai' life liao.... Keke...

Ciaos! Have a great weekend!!

Mooncake Craze!!

1:08:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

For the benefit of my "international" readers, it's Mooncake Festival aka Mid-Autumn Festival soon! The festival falls on lunar calendar 15th August, which happens to be on next sunday, 14th September. Usually, chinese festivals come with stories but I'm not going to tell stories here lah, just go Goggle and search yourself okay? Be good ar.... I'm more interested in EATING .. erm.. I mean mooncake tasting ( got 'class' one) ^_^

Usually I bought mooncakes from Raffles the Plaza, their snow-skinned truffle mooncakes are all so yummy!! But then, time to switch and give other hotels a chance... * Drums rolling* This year I have chosen => Goodwood Hotel... * clapping*

Seems that most of the hotels have introduced fruity flavours such as durian and mango this year. Since Goodwood is famous for all their durian goodies ( cakes, crepes etc), I should just get from only the BEST right?

Assortment includes Mango with Pomelo, Yam with Red Dates, Jackfruit & DURIAN!

To save the trouble of deciding what to get, I just get assortment which contains every flavour! Yeah!

The BEST ~ Durian! Contains real durian meat!

Mango with Pomelo

Yam with Red Date

Jackfruit

Indeed, the durian mooncake had not failed me.. It was super good! The snow-skinned tasted like mochi ( QQ), and the durian meat tasted just right, not too sweet, not too bitter. Next in line, was the mango flavour, which I seriously thought it was mango pudding wrapped with snow-skin. Don't get me wrong, I like it a lot. But isnt it a bit too expensive to buy mango pudding at $10 ( each mooncake cost around $10)?

As for Yam & Jackfruit, I dun really like them. Felt that the taste was too overwhelming. My mum said they were good though. Apparently, the Yam flavour is back because of high demand, so I guess it's just that I have a unique taste bud bah... hahaha

The mooncakes were packed nicely in a yellow box and the hotel also gave a cooler bag. How thoughtful! But then, I'm not too sure whether the cooler bag comes with a minimum purchase coz I bought 2 boxes lah...

Paris Food

9:37:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Sorry to disappoint all but food I had in Paris was nothing to shout about. It was mainly potato, crepe, omelette & bread! Oh, I must have lost weight in Paris...

* Paused to measure weight*

Well, I thought I had? Hmm, guess the weighing scale went crazy and not able to give the right measurement. Nvm then.

* Paused to kick weighting machine aside *

Cheese & Bacon Omelette

Steak with Potato Cubes

French Loaf

These were our first dishes in Paris. Pretty okay, coupled with the facts that we were starving.. they were indeed fantastic!!

Pizza

Can you believe? This ugly cha-da thing was in fact one of the better meal I had in Paris. It was actually pizza with lots of cheese, bacon, chicken etc in it. We ate this after our trip to Eiffel Tower. It was already late and most of the restaurant were closed. When we spotted this pizza shop, it was almost like oasis in the dessert.. haha. Better still, it was not really expensive. We paid 10 euro for the pizza plus a tiramisu and we were both happily fed and satisfied.

Subway lookalike

This was quite common in the cafes along the street. Basically they are all selling the same thing. I tot subway taste much better!

*********

Set meal at restaurant at Champs-Elynees
Include appetizer, main course, dessert ~ 35 euro

Pasta with crab sauce ~ Quite tasty, and we were really looking forward for the main course..

Beef slices with mashed potato ~ Alas! Such a disappointment. The beef slice was so tough that I had to spit it out after numerous attempts to swallow the whole piece down my throat without choking myself.

Dark choco, hazelnut & coffee ice-cream ~ Ice-cream would never go wrong, anyplace anytime.. hee

Smoked salmon ~ Presentation, taste were all substandard. Sobz

I thought of pampering ourselves, so we went to this "better" restaurant but turned out that the normal cafes can whip up better dishes. Moral of the story? Expensive stuff doesnt always mean better stuff.. keke
