Riverone @ The Quayside [Closed]

12:12:00 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Happened to pass by Riverone, and was somehow attracted to the " 1 For 1 Wine/Beer" Promotion. YES! I'm proud to announce that I'm a Singaporean! Keke.. The place was airy and spacious... Nice place to enjoy a glass of wine indeed. Aiya, but it's a promotion, so dun set your expectation too high wor! $5++ for a glass of wine is cheap cheap liao hor... =p

Well, of coz to disguise my Kiasu trait, I got to order something else. I dun wan to be seen as someone who grabs any sale items! I wan to be Kiasu with CLASS.... Hoho. But I was glad that I ordered the dessert, which was both delightful and pretty!

Blueberry Cheesecake with Ice-Cream ( $10)

See the pretty pattern? I'm not too sure what was that though, tasted like Bailey to me..

1 For 1 Wine ( equals to $5+ for each glass! Cheap!)

Btw, they do serve breakfast, lunch and dinner as well. And they dun charge GST ( or perhaps they absorb it liao)! So my total damage for the day was only $22, which included 2 glasses of wine and 1 delicious dessert.

New Hangout Places Discovered! Check them out!

9:56:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

I have just added on new hangout/chill out venues. Check them out if you are interested!

1) Riverone

This restaurant actually serve breakfast, lunch & dinner , so not exactly a chill out place. However, the restaurant is having a promotion of " 1 For 1" for both beer & wine ( selected range). Not too sure whether it is a on-going promotion though. Anyway I just went there for cheesecake and wine, will blog about it real soon. So stay till!

2) The Wine Hut

Discovered this when I went makan at The Gallery Hotel. They sell wines by bottle as well as serve walk-in customers. They have a air con area ( including couch seats) for group of friends to enjoy a cozy chat. On-going promotion for takeaway is 10% off the price.

I've checked out the prices of IceWine when I was there. Basically they have 3 kinds of IceWine, prices are approximately $70+ for a bottle. If I remember correctly, the staff mentioned that they are from Canada. They have another kind from Chile, not too sure whether it's IceWine or just Dessert Wine. Anyway it is a smaller bottle, sold at $40, just nice for a smaller group of 2 or 3.

3) Wild Rocket @ Mt Emily

Went there for desserts, but the range is kind limited. They serve full meal as well. Well, it seemed quite popular as the place was full when I was there. Or was it because the place was small? Haha... Anyway, the point is: Do remember to make a reservation if you are thinking of coming here.

4) Wild Oats Bar By The Park

This is just beside Wild Rocket, but it's more like a drinking place to me. This remind me of The Wine Company @ Dempsey Road. They have seat outside, where you can chat over a glass of wine with a group of friends under the twinking stars, away from the city crowd. The only disadvantage is the location. Even though it's near The Cathay, it's not exactly walkable distance. That's what I think lah, but I not too sure oso as I went there by car mah.. hehe

Absolute Haven [Closed]

7:55:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Have been busy planning my trip to London. It is great that I have friends staying in overseas => Free accommodation and free food?? It is an exciting yet tedious process of planning the itinerary, making sure that everything falls within my budget. Am budgeting only $4k for a trip of 13 days, which would include air ticket to London, train tickets to Scotland & Paris, entrance tickets to attraction places, accommodation, day tour and food. Mission impossible? Hmm, kind of, huh? So, PLS PLS, do email me if you know of any cheap/budget eating place in Scotland/Paris/ London? =p

Haha, back to my food review... Ya, I went to Absolute Haven at Prinsep Street last Sunday. Was closed when we reached there... I though so suay ar! Buy 4D oso not so chun! But heng ar, I smart.. I took the name card and called them outside the resturant. We were just too early as the place only opened at 6.30pm for dinner... hoho

Real Cool! They serve " strawberry ice water"! Haha, it was just ice water with slices of strawberry in it, so the ice water will have a nice strawberry fragrance. You cant see the strawberry because they just poured out from the jar ( with the strawberry slices) into my glass mah! See! Got strawberry seed for evidence!

Actually can try at home also.. grape water, banana water, mango water and erm... durian water? On 2nd thoughts, a bit yucky so... Nah!

Mushroom Soup $6.90

Puree version of mushroom soup - made freshly by pureeing portobello mushrooms, shitake mushrooms & button mushrooms.

Tasted exactly like mushrooms put together in a food blender. It was surprisingly light based despite of the brownish colour. But I personally much prefer normal creamy mushroom soup. I find the mushroom taste a bit too much. Well, but it was something different... Be adventurous mah!

Free Bread from the house! Or did we behave like two starving kids?? Hmmm.....

Pesto Crusted Cod - $26

Pan seared codfish with a layer of pesto crust, served with fresh asparagus, mango salsa and top with mesclun salad.

The chef was damn generous! The serving was big lor.. Codfish was expensive, so normally other places would give you tiny piece with a lot of salad. I thought the portion kinda justified the price. Keke..

The mango salsa was nice to whet up your appetite. Slightly sourish but that was bearable. And I love to eat mango!

What was pesto crusted? Who cares? I definitely cant make out what was pesto even at the end of the course. Looked at the cod ---> BEAUTIFUL. The fish will simply fall into slices with a little touch of the fork.. Mmm.. The memories was sweet.. Hehe

Oven-Roasted Yorkshire Pork Rack - $23

Served with herb new potato, vegetable ratatouille, drizzle with coffee chocolate sauce, and top with fresh mesclun salad

I was influenced by the movie " Ratatouille" and was just curious what was that actually? As you can see, it was just diced vegetable ( capsicum, carrot etc etc) grilled together. Nothing fantastic but it was just a side dish, so let it be..

The highlight was of coz the pork itself! It was so tender that for a moment, I thought I was eating beef, without the bloody scene. And it was juicy for every bite, that made the chewing much more enjoyable. But then, I could not tell that the sauce was "coffee chocolate" till I read the menu again...

This was given by the sweet lady boss for every couple who made a reservation at the restaurant. Pleasant gesture indeed... I'll definitely be back!

I'm back... From Bangkok!!

10:14:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Yo! I'm back!! In fact, I was glad to be back home in Singapore. It was damn hot over at Bangkok, and I felt so so dehydrated! Well, I promise to be appreciative of the good weather in Singapore. Let's see, maybe 1 month? Before I start to complain the erratic weather again... =p

Anyway, the trip was full of hazard, sweat and weary. First of all, the stupid SQ actually left my fren's luggage out. So, we were there in bangkok while her poor luggage was left alone in Singapore. How dumb can it be, when we had all checked in together and faithfully reached the airport an hour earlier to check in?

On the way from Bangkok airport to our hotel, we agreed upon the taxi fare before we boarded the taxi. But on the way, the driver actually asked for toll fee for highway. We insisted that he talked to his manager and refused to pay him. Shortly afterthat, we heard a loud bang. And the driver removed his safety belt and stopped the car at the road shoulder in the middle of the highway! Panic lor! Scared that he was angry with us for not paying him the highway charge and decided to abandon us. But heng lah, coz he just went to check his vehicle niao. So after that, we decided to be nice to him and dun made him angry.. -_-" In any case, he kenak stopped by the traffic police for making an illegal turn. Well, saw him paid the police some money to get away the charge tot. Dunno we sway or he sway to pick us up?? Hmm.. keke

On the next day after our shopping, we kenak another taxi driver who refused to go by meter. Ended up, we just paid him 150 Baht to get back lor.. No choice man, coz it was kinda late. But he got his "retribution" lah... coz he ALSO kenak stopped by police and got to pay 50 Baht. Keke... either we "jinx" the taxi drivers or the traffic police in Bangkok are really working hard ( at collecting bribes?) nowadays...

Putting aside the series of unfortunate events, we had our share of great food and fun shopping. In total, I bought 20 clothes ( includes skirts, dresses, tops, shorts and vest), 5 shoes, hair accessories and belt. How much I spent on them? Hmm, polly ard S$250+? That was about S$10 per item, real cheap man!! I would be back!!

As expected, I ate a lot in Bangkok as well.. the food there were more tastier ( polly of more generous serving of spices) and definitely cheaper. Ya can just order anything you like without thinking about your wallet damage. Cool man! Such environment works perfectly for ppl like me who eat like glutton, simply want to have a taste of everything and anything! Hahhahah

This was a thai food resturant recommended by fren. It was situated at Siam Square, Soi 8. Not too hard to find, coz it was a hut-like building standing on its own.

We went there for a after-lunch-before-dinner snack, so we just ordered a few authentic thai food to try. Aiya, must follow the locals mah...

Mango with Glutinous Rice
The one served in Singapore can never compared to this lor! The mango was damn big and sweet, while the rice was soft and simply melted away in your mouh. Yet, you can still enjoy the stickness texture of normal glutinous rice. Eat the rice together with the coconut milk and mango... Awesome!
Red Ruby - Chestnut with coconut milk
The red ruby was crunchy on the inside, and soft on the outside. The starch(??) wrapping the chestnut bites was soft, kinda different from the ones sold in Singapore. Maybe because it was freshly made, and therefore did not harden. What? Ya wanna see clearer? Come, come... place ur nose against the screen....keke

They really looked like red ruby lor!! Jewels for the taste bud!!

Tom Yam Soup
It was a bit spicy for me, but nevertheless was good. Well, that what my frens all said lah. I'm not someone who enjoys spicy food so cant really appreciate the goodness of it. To me, it was bit bit sour, bit bit spicy. And hor, ya can find all sorts of seafood like fresh prawn ( not those small, frozen kind), fish, sotong, mussels, mushrooms.. 值得!

Fish Cakes
They tasted sth like otah, but definitely more satisfying. There were fish, sotong, mussel, prawn inside the fish cake itself lor! And the fish cakes were BIG, each cost like 30 baht only. They were so gigantic, that we got to tabao back to the hotel coz we were too full to finish them all. And most imptly, they tasted as good after heating up the next morning!

For all the above, we spent like around 500baht ( S$22) for 4 pax, which was like only $5 each. My god!! Really worth for the good food, somemore we were in a proper thai resturant, not roadside stall leh..
Other pretty desserts that we dint manage to try tot.... SOBZ... See lor.... and DROOL lor... SOBZ

Drink Break at MBK =>
Orange blended Juice
Watermelon & Orange blended Juice
Here presenting the Long Awaited Dinner ( 3 hours after our thai food) => Japanese Food!

Actually I wanted to go to the Jap Resturant that I used to go last time, but *poof*, it was gone. Sad leh... coz that one really cheap and good. Somemore, the waitress all dressed in kimono de. ( You scratched head and said "so what?") Dunno leh, nicer lor... haha.

But I got over my "sadness" in less than 5 minutes and went to another Japanese Resturant in the same level ( MBK, Level 2 or 3).

Kobune Japanese Restaurant
Sashimi!
But it was too little! We had braved through Platinum Mall, Siam Square & MBK the whole day, how can a small plate of sashimi comforted us? So we ordered another plate of salmon sashimi..
This was great! The fish slices was cooling to the palate, must be freshly cut out from the fish tank! Each slice was chunky and sweet... Oh, I can feel the ocean!! ^_^
Nabeyaki
This was not so good as the udon seemed to be a bit over-cooked. So dun order this if ya coming here unless you dun mind a bit soggy udon lah.

Saba Set
Beef Set Must order the set meal! Each set came with soup, white radish side dish, kimchi ( Thai cant differentiate Jap & Korean lah..hee) and rice. Yet they costed less than S$10 each. Both saba and beef were reasonably good. And hor, the bean sprout and vege were cooked in teppanyaki style.. I like!

Chawamushi This was kinda tasteless, machiam dint put enuff soya sauce. But the picture looked so good leh.. so dun be deceived by it! Haha..

Squid in teriyaki sauce
One of my fav dish... the squid was QQ to the max! Must try leh...

In total, we spent ard 1,200baht ( S$55) for 4, so roughly $10+ for each pax. Alamak, where to find this in Spore. Somemore, got complimentary ice-cream at the end of it.

Day 2 at Bangkok
We were dead tired after all the "hardwork" and "series of unfortunate events" for the previous days. But dun worry,we were mentally strong and that kept us chionging all the way!! In the morning we went chatuchap, and then came back to the hotel at around lunch time for our free lunch!

Phat Thai
I guess any place in Thailand served delicious thai food, even a "deserted" cafe ( coz for the past 2 days, we seemed to be the only customers during lunch time)! Mix the raw bean sprout together with the glass noodles, the taste was so aromatic, it totally covered the raw taste. And because the bean sprout were raw, they gave a crunchy texture...

Tom Yam Soup
This was less spicy than the one we had previously. More to the sour kind. Again, we were given a generous serving of seafood!

Somemore, we also given each a plate of fruits ( watermelon, papaya, melon & pineapple) which were all super sweet!

Thereafter, we chionged to Platinum Mall again to contine the "battle"! It was getting tough as resources ( aka my $$ lah) was depleting fast. I got to deploy resources to where the battle had 80% of survival ( aka negotiating prices)....

Darkness was approaching, we got to feed ourselves again! This time round, we went to have xiao long bao and la mien at Central world for a dinner appetizer..

See the clear soup oozing out from the packet??

Finally, we went Big C supermarket to buy dinner back to hotel to "celebrate the victory"!

Fresh Saba bought & grilled (FOC) in the supermarket

Dun rub your eyes! There was absolutely nothing wrong with them. YES! It was 25baht for the whole saba, S$1+!!! I can eat a basket of saba lor!

Fresh Blue Prawn, again bought & grilled (FOC) at the supermarket
Again, super cheap at 51.75 baht! That was about S$2 lor..

We were in luck! It happened that Centralworld was having a hokkido fair, so we went for the free tasting and of coz tabao for more feast!

After several food testing, keke, we decided to buy the following back...

Fresh squid with seaweed and roe

Yes, we simply love the glue-ness taste of raw squid!

Not too sure what it was.. Dun care lah! Just eat lah!

Hairy Crab Meat with BIG roe bento set
We paid 490 Baht for this. Considering that it was HAIRY CRAB & ROE, I guess it was still cheap? Keke.. BUt the hairy crab was really tasty, I wished we had more man..

Take a look at the BIGGGGGG roe... can *pop* *pop* inside the mouth lor...

Finally, we ended off our dinner with japanese pancake.. like the one Doremon ate, but with strawberry & black sesame cream fillings. Yummy!

How much we spent again? An alarming figure of only S$10+ each per pax again!
