Absolute Haven - The Weekend Brunch [Closed]

7:37:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

One fine day, Absolute Haven sms me about their weekend brunch. Browsing through the menu on their website , the price of $39++ for that kind of spread ( scallops, foie gras etc) sure looked appealing... Being a typical Singaporean, I must go and try it out!!

So another one fine day, I went, expecting many like us.... Surprisingly, we were the first to reach and the few couples around even after approximately 2 hours. How to survive like that? Hmm..

Empty tables...

That was beside the point right, the main thing was the quality of the food! Well, at least it kinda benefited the few customers like us since there was no need to queue or "snatch" food... =p

The spread table

It looked kinda little huh? But heh, those were only the appetizers, there were main courses and desserts to be ordered separately, which were all inclusive in the price.

Let me just do a zoom-in on the dishes. Pardon me, I dint realised that some of the dishes were still wrapped up until I did the uploading here... Told you! We were the first to reach mah...

Stating from the top, clockwise direction:
Potato salad with mayonnaise & apple

Assorted mushroom salad with Italian flavours

Fuka Hirei ( Sharkfin in japanese vinegar dressing
Assorted cold cuts with green olives??

I dint really try the salad, except for the assorted mushroom. Well, it was served cold, so I dint quite like it...

Assorted cakes

The cakes were nice, but a pity there wasnt a lot of varieties. In fact, all were different variation of chocolate cakes, except for one. I also like strawberry & mango cakes, you know??

Grilled scallops with garlic confit & basil pesto ( scroll down further for close-up) Assorted Ham

Mix grilled vegetables with pickled onions

Parma ham with melon

One of my favourite...

Prawns

I'm a very prawn person, cant resist prawns. Cant complain, they were fresh & sweet, just that a bit troublesome to shell them....

Clams

Marinated smoke duck breast with orange wedges & balsamic dressing

Another of my favourite...

Grill scallops with garlic confit & basil pesto

Definitely the hot favourite that day! The scallops were BIG lor... I had 4 of it until I was a bit sick of it.. It was nice but again because it was a cold dish, after a while, it just became a bit too much..

Baby octopus with assorted pickles

Thai chicken salad with lime dressing

Greek style tuna salad

Smoke salmon with cape & with pickled onions

Marinated mackerel with Japanese cucumber in sweet & sour dressing

Foie Gras terrine on toasted bread

********

Free flow of mushroom soup! Very Nice!

********

We come to the 2nd part of the menu => the ordered food:

1) Egg Selection - between sunny side up and scrambled egg

Fried egg

Scrambled egg

It was just egg, what else you want me to say??? Keke

B) Main courses, choose among
- Grilled Beef

- Cod Fillet
- Unagi Eel
- Lamb Rack

- Roasted Chicken Thigh

We dun eat lamb and eel, obviously chicken was much inferior compared to other meat, hence we decided to go for grilled beef and cod fillet. Something to comment, we spent quite some time to convey our order to the waiter. First, he was saying that there was no cod fillet on that day. After that, he went back to check and apparently, the cod fillet was found. Ya, so anyway, we managed to get beef & codfish after all...

Marinated cod fillet with spinach, tomatoes broth

Grilled beef with potatos mousse, asparagus, maderia sauce

There wasnt any potato mousse even though the menu said so. I love mashed potato lor, kinda felt "cheated" =( And instead of asparagus, I was served grilled green peppers. Well, I understand that the chef had the rights to adjust the menu but I dun really eat green peppers, so perhaps by informing the customer the change of ingredient would be nice, at least the chef can save on my share of green peppers?

Anyway, I thought I was quite good at cutting the beef, the thickness was quite even mah! Haha.. The beef was okay, but boring lor.. no vegetables, no side dishes...

C) Desserts selection - Between sorbet & tiramisu

Korean strawberries with citrus sorbet

I quite like the sorbet even though it was sour and the strawberries were not helping much. It was refreshing after eating so much varieties in such a short duration...

Tiramisu with berries and chocolate sauce

This didnt really taste like the typical tiramisu. In fact, it tasted more like a chocolate cake. Kinda disappointed coz I was looking forward for it as a grand finale after the whole course...

*******

I dint seem to comment much huh, even though I took quite a number of pictures. But the food was kinda normal, not bad but also not fantastic. I think I still prefer the ala carte. Ha....

I Wanna Go HK Now!

10:40:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Initially, I wanna update my blog with food review, but the weather too hot, jam my brain.. I cant think anything straight!

Worst, my nose is running like tap water. Can anyone tell me why am I damn hot with perspiration, but still have running nose? Being like that since the weather went erratic...

Anyway, today I was out-stationed at client place. Guess what? The room given for us to work was damn dirty. Full of dead houseflies corpses around.. on the desk, on the floor, everywhere! Not tiny houseflies, big one lor! Damn grossed... not to mention the room had a stale smell lingering in the air, dimly lighted, dusty... the list goes on...

Grrr...

I wanna go HK NOW!

救救我吧!!

CATS, The Musical

11:49:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

I just came back from watching CATS, the musical...

Guess what?

I fall asleep in the first half... =p Dun really understand why it is so famous & loved by many. It was the first musical that I went and fall asleep, and that was even before the break!

I just remember a lot of "cats" dancing & singing the same songs over and over again. If I'm not wrong, the song " Memories" was sung at least 3 or 4 times. Even though the song was nice, it was a bit too much... Haha. They used the same backdrop, and I totally dun understand/appreciate the storyline, if any...

Well, cant say the musical was exactly bad.. the performers were really good at mimicking a cat's movement & behaviour. Perhaps because I was seated really far from the stage, I dun get a good view of their facial expression.

Overall, I dun really enjoy the musical that much, and I was almost glad when it ended at 9.40pm ( tot it should end at 10pm)... haha..

Guess I'm not so "cultured" after all..... =p

Anyway, here are 2 clips that I found on YouTube... enjoy!!

Have you all tried Churros before? ^_^

Again, quoting from my favourite Wiki, let's find out what's Churros first!

Churros, sometimes referred to as a Spanish doughnut, are fried-dough pastry-based snacks, sometimes made from potato dough, that originated in Spain. Churros are typically fried until they become crunchy, and then sprinkled with sugar. They are normally eaten for breakfast dipped in hot chocolate. Kinda similar to Youtiao, a type of bread in Chinese Cuisine, but differs in that Youtiao is savory rather than sweet.

********

I ate Churros first time when I went London last year. It was really love at first sight.... Oops, I meant love at first bite! Keke

Can you imagine my excitement when I found out that I could have it in Singapore as well! Thank goodness, we can find almost cuisine from all over the world here. I'm glad I'm staying in Singapore... keke

Without much delay... Let me have the honour to direct you to this humble snack shop selling Churros, conveniently located at Clarke Quay => ALEGRO.

Well, it is really humble coz it is more like a snack bar than a cafe/restuarant. There is only a couple of high chairs and tables for dine-in. Anyway, the food are serve in disposable cups and plates, so I guess it doesnt really matter. You can just ta bao and eat along the way...

Orange Lantern Vietnamese Resturant

11:14:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

I was having a gathering with my gal frens at Barstop & we decided to get a quick dinner at Killiney Road. My fren recommended this Vietnamese Restaurant & so we just gave it a try. Anyway, I had wanted to try this when I was at HarbourFront Center, which housed the other outlet.

The place was simply decorated, with no elaborated details. It was quite empty on a Satuaday night.... Well, the pictures said so too...

My order => Chendol + Beef Noodles...

Comment => Just ordinary. Or rather below passable. Ha..

I always like Vietnamese beef noodles, simply because it was cooked with lots of spices but yet delightfully light. But the beef noodles here, I find it REALLY plain. Chendol, was just like any other chendol you can find at your neighborhood hawker centre, except that it was more expensive.

Chendol

Beef Noodles

Spices for Beef Noodles

Seeing that there were people at HGW giving the resturant a average rating of 7+ for the food, really made me perplexed. Is there sth wrong with my taste bud? But my other frens who were with me dun find the food there fantastic as well...

Ha, I dun think I will revisit this resturant ever again, at least not the one at Killiney Road. Keke

Thus, I shant leave any details about the resturant! Search for it at HGW if you are really keen to try lor.... =p
