Nepal ~ Mountain Trekking ~ Day 5 to Day 10

Day 5 ( Third day of trekking)

The past 2 days was nothing compared to Day 5. Today was the starting of the " Steep Steep Steep" journey! When my guide said it was flat & easy journey, it would still meant some climbing & descending. However, when he said it was steep, you can be sure that it was REALLY steep.. It was literally vertical upwards.. *Sigh*

Indeed, there was a lot of climbing. I really hate descending =_= I felt as if I was at The Great Wall of China, a vertical one, neverending. However at this point, my bf was feeling unwell, suffering from mild heatstroke. Slow but finally, we reached the lunch point. Phew...

We were supposed to go to a natural hot spring that was down the lunch point. Yeah, at least 30min - 45min of descending to the river bank where there was a natural hot spring. My bf decided to give it a miss, so I went ahead with the rest.

Nepal ~ Mountain Trekking ~ Day 1 to Day 4

Day 1

We reached Kamathdu ( City of Nepal) at around 12pm local time, and was met by our local guide plus the tour agent boss himself. Traffic was good as there was a transport strike. Therefore, only tour buses with foreigners were allowed on the roads. The local guide said that he had walked for almost 30mins to reach the international airport. Weather was manageable, cooling but comfortable.

The first glimpse of the city, view from the plane

Nepal ~ Mountain Trekking ~ Machapurna Base Camp

10:40:00 PM Unknown 2 Comments

How It Begins...

We were invited to join a group of 13 others to trek in Himalayans, Nepal. The initial plan was to trek to Everest Base Camp. However, as 2 of the team mates had went to Everest before, the plan was changed to trek to Annapurna, Machapurna Base Camp (MBC).

Both trek will reach about 3000m height, however the latter trek will be physically more straining as we will need to scale up and down mountains from the start point at Pokhara, which is only standing 800+m. The Everest trek will have an "easier" way as we could have taken a domestic flight which will fly us up to 2000+m. However, it will also mean less time for acclimatization and therefore more prone to altitude sickness.

Anyway to me, it doesnt really matter. Dun get me wrong, I'm not being disrespectful to Mt Everest. But for me, climbing a mountain alone itself is already a feat. And out from my own ignorance, I really cant tell which snowcapped mountain is which.

And by definition from our Sherpa leader, only mountains that are snowcapped and above 6000m are considered mountains. Those that are below this 2 criteria couldnt be termed as one.Annapurna itself is also standing at 8000m, the 10th highest mountain in the world. Click here to read more about Annapurna
