Tendon Ginza Itsuki

6:38:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

There was always long queue when I passed by Tendon Ginza Itsuki and I wondered why...
Looking at the menu displayed right outside the shop, it seemed nothing to rave about. It was just tempura right, so dun wan to queue lah.... LOL
And so happened, I knocked off early one friday and there was no queue.... because the restaurant was not yet opened. Keke

Ok lah, there was a couple before me; I was thinking if I didnt try it then, I probably had to wait until dunno when lah.. so I cancelled my booking at Pince & Pints (sorry ah.. P&P) and joined the queue.
Ordering was a piece of cake... only 2 items ~ special or vegetable tendon, with just a dollar difference. Unless you are vegetarian, the choice is obvious. While waiting for the chefs to do their 'magic', we helped ourselves to the complimentary salad at the counter.
Chawanmushi (part of the set) was great, very smooth and delectable.
Finally, the 主角 was here!
It was really a piece of art and totally deserved another photo here.

The chicken was super tender; my silly hubby thought it was fish! The batter was light and ingredients were fresh. The sauce that came with it gave it a subtle sweetness, yummy! And dun be fooled by this bowl, it was super filling and satisfying. =)
And the egg which was fried on the outside was actually runny inside! Wow!

This was really worthwhile; where can you get yourself a big bowl of quality food with just $13.90? So that explains the queue. Must try ya!

Asanoya

12:20:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Since we were at Bugis area in the morning, we popped by Asanoya, a Japanese bakery to try out the hot favorite these days ~ salted egg yolk croissant!

We were told that the egg yolk croissant would be available only after 11am, so hor, we decided to try out the other breads.
All the breads looked so exquisite, how to choose?? I must had spend a good 10mins browsing up and down the counter.
 Matcha Swiss Roll - $2.80
Club Sandwich - $7
Green Tea Latte - $6
I guess maybe we were starving and bias; everything was good! I particularly adored the green tea latte which had this roasted tea aroma, I like!
11am! Dunno where these people came from and suddenly there was a long queue liao... But ok lah, there was more than 1 tray, so I think should be enough for everyone so long you are there around that timing?
Our "trophies"! Keke

I ordered the matcha salted egg croissant and maple salted egg croissant, because salted egg croissant was too mundane. ^_^
The filling was not those flowing type, more creamy. In fact, I preferred the croissant itself over the filling, which was a tab sweet to me. The croissant was fluffy and light, really nice when toasted.
Will try the Salted Egg Cube the next time!
We just cant get enough of the breads here, so we even packed home the Royal Milk Tea Bread, which was super nice also. It had the early grey milk tea fragrance and was fluffy inside. I'm surely going back for more. =)

Sunday Folks

10:37:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Sunday Folks is another dessert place by the same peeps from Creamier but because it's located in the Holland Village area which is not near where I work/stay, I have waited till now to try it out.

It's located across Holland Village, in the not so crowded Chip Bee Gardens. Besides Sunday Folks, there are Italian & Thai restaurants that you can check out as well. =)
Price wise, it's definitely more atas than Creamier. However, they offer interesting toppings and sauces (at additional cost), which allow you to customize your own waffle ice-cream.
Instead of creamy ice-cream type, it's more of a soft serve or rather more icy texture. We had the pistachio icecream with gula melaka mochi, which cost $15.40 after taxes. The pastachio flavour was nice, my current addiction!
See, the waffles got 'holes' inside, so airy and fluffy and crispy on the outside ~ best combination.

If you are in Holland Village but dislike the crowd, hop over to Chip Bee Gardens to try out the waffle icecream here! A nice treat esp in hot weather like now. Keke

Hokkaido Izakaya

11:28:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Currently my favourite japanese restaurant! ^_^

I actually went back the second time within the month, which is really rare for me.

Menu is not extensive but good enough, plus everything looks so good. Let's start!
Grilled scallop ($10) each

Huge juicy scallop with Hokkaido butter, super good! Expensive, yes. But I rather go for quality than quantity when I'm older.

This I picked up from a friend, who recommended to eat organic vege than normal one. Just eat less, but better food. Spending wise will be almost the same, since just have to cut the amount. Plus eat less, hopefully can shed some pounds ~ win win situation! =)
Japanese Omelette Mixed with Milk ($10)

This was the reason that we came. It was fluffy and light but wasn't as milky as we expected. Good to try esp if you come in a big group. We shared among the 2 of us, so by the 3rd piece, the taste became kinda boring lor, still good though.
Grilled Jap Pork Belly Marinated with Sake Lees Miso ($12)

We totally fell in love with this, definitely a unique taste. You can taste a subtle sweet aroma of the sake less the spiciness of the alcohol. Pardon my words, DAMN nice.
Hot Soba with Kakiage & Prawn Tempura ($14)

You probably see a lot of this dish in the instagram. When I dont know what to order, I will look at the instagram to check out what's popular! Does anyone else do that? Heehee

I think this was quite passable lah although the kakiage was really crispy. It didnt become soggy mushy even when we soaked it in the soup. Coz I hate to eat soggy stuff, so this worked out fine. Just that I was expecting prawn but didnt really taste any...

Sake Icecream ($5)

Super creamy!
Potato Salad ($9)

2nd visit!

$9 was not cheap for a bowl of potato, egg, cucumber, onion salad. All the ingredients seemed cheap, but it was potato from Hokkiado wor. Served warm and the staff will mix everything up in front of you. That explained the 'mess' in the photo. Nice to try once.
Cooked Salmon Roll

Suppose to be cooked salmon roll, turned out to be aburi salmon roll. Again, the staff will torch the salmon slices in front of you, so it will be served warm with the cool avocardo. Nice contrast.

Cant rem when I last eat salmon sashimi, almost forgot how good it tasted. And the roe was just on point.
Wagyu Beef Steak ($38)

Gosh so expensive for such a small portion, relatively. Then again, it was totally worth it. See that beautiful pink; it was cooked to perfection.

It suit both our liking; I prefer medium rare while hubby prefers medium cooked. It was just so good that I cant even describe. If you are willing to splurge, try this!
