I went Dozo to celebrate Valentine Day, but we didnt choose the Valentine Set, which was doubled the pricing of its normal set. Hey, the normal dinner set is already priced at $59.80++ hor, not cheap.
For first timers, pricing is fixed at $39.80++ for 6 course set (only for lunch) and $59.80++ for 7 course set. Within the set, you have the option to choose from a variety of 5 items in each course, visit the website if you are interested to find out more. =)
Bread sticks
FOC for us to munch as we waited for dinner to be served.
It was crowded on a Sunday night, even though not on V day itself, so do make a reservation before popping by. =)
Starter: Chef's Selection of Assorted Platter
For this, you dun get to choose what you eat. As the name suggests, it was of coz decided by the chef.
We were in luck ~ the platter was 3 mini bites made up of Foie Gras with toast, Grilled Scallop & Smoked Salmon.
The foie gras here was pretty good. Mind you, it's rather hard to find decent one and I frequently tasted terrible foie gras, that was so gross that I find it hard to swallow. I almost wanna give up on foie gras to avoid the "risk" of paying good money for terrible food, since foie gras is really expensive. So when I said it was pretty good, I really meant it.
The scallop was fresh, although abit small and the smoked salmon was not too saltish.
Overall it was a nice start which kept us anticipated for the next course. =)
Chilled Drink
A sweet/sour drink that we wished that it was of a bigger cup! LOL
Cold Dish: Smoked Duck
Cold Dish: King Crab Claw
Among the 2 choices we had picked, the smoked duck was unanimously the better one. The King Crab Claw was not so "King" after all, little meat and tasteless.
As usual, bf picked the better one (smoked duck). Argh, I'm really bad at making choices in food!
Side Dish: Escargots with Yuzu Butter
Side Dish: Tempura Battered Soft Shell Crab with Mash Potato
Especially, adored the escargots! Hey, my choice! *Proud*
The escargots were served in both grilled and cheese baked, which were equally good. Think there were 3 altogether, but I cant really remember how the 3rd one was handled. Try for yourself! =p
The soft shell crab was a big portion for a side dish, rested on creamy mash potato. Nice one.
Soup: Crab Bisque Cappuccino style
Soup: Doubled Boiled Beef Consomme
The crab bisque was super "gao" (concentrated), bursting with crab flavour with every spoonful. Then again, it may be too jerlat (overwhelming) after a few spoonful. Perhaps that explains why it was served in a small cappuccino cup.
The beef consomme tasted like those Chinese soup that mums will brew for hours, tasted much lighter than the crab bisque but definitely still flavorful.
Main Dish: Baked Atlantic Cod Fillet
Main Dish: Duck Confit
Dun quite like the cod fish as the texture tasted somewhat different from the usual smooth one. Duck confit was okay, large serving alright.
I think I have too many duck confit already, that I dun feel excited about it anymore. But rest assured, if I taste bad one, I will definitely "complain". LOL
Dessert: Japanese style Red Bean Puff and Baked Warm Chocolate Cake (background), both with Ice Cream
We waited for almost 30mins before desserts were served as apparently, they had forgotten us. =(
By the time desserts were served, we were super full. As my science teacher mentioned, the slower we eat, the easier to feel full as your stomach will have sufficient time to deliver the message that it's full to the brain.
Anyway, desserts were just okay, no surprises. Chocolate cake never fails, although the appearance of the red bean puff looked weird. I was actually expecting those cute round puff with azuki bean paste, so was frowning when I first saw the puff. Luckily it turned out okay. Hahahha
Drinks: Ice Fruity Refresher + Green Apple Mocktail (background)
Loved my ice fruity refresher, indeed refreshing with a tinge of sweetness. Came with fruits cubes too! On the other hand, bf's green apple mocktail tasted like sweet syrup-ed drink , hey not my cup of tea.
The variety (refer to menu in the official website) is good, great for people who love to have a bit of everything and willing to splurge! Keke
