Sushi Airways - Lunch Menu

10:57:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

I'm retyping this post as I've accidentally deleted without saving a draft. *Facepalm* Oh well, let's do a short and sweet one then! =)

We were back at Sushi Airways for lunch!
The lunch set, priced at $15, is available all days, which is more affordable compared to the ala carte menu. Since Sushi Airways specialized in fresh sea food, our choice is obviously Bara Chirashi Sushi Set.
The seafood was fresh, but portion wise was a tab miserable. Can probably finish the bowl in less than 10 mouthful. Great for the office ladies, quality over quantity! Lol

On a positive note, it means more stomach space for dessert after lunch!
Ending off with a creamy green tea ice-cream.

Red Velvet Waffles - $14.90

While we were waiting for our lunch reservation at Sushi Airways, we popped by Stateland which is in the vicinity. Well, who says that we cant have dessert before a proper meal? =p

The cafe is dainty and cozy, with a vintage industrial theme. It was actually quite relaxing to just sit around and spend the afternoon away. It seems like wasting time, but what's the rush?  Well, I believe we should always make time to just do nothing. ^_^

Anyway back to the waffles! It was red velvet waffles and looked pretty with the pink meringue , berries & cream cheese dots. But hor, I preferred the waffles at Oblong, where there is lotza cream cheese. Here, the waffles was just pretty but didnt quite leave an impression.

Bangkok 2015 - W Hotel Bangkok

11:27:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Final post of my bangkok trip~ Accomodation!

As both of us redeemed our air tickets, we decided to splurge on the accommodation. We spent approximately S$800+ for 4days 3 nights stay as there was a promotion for book 3 night get 1 free night, so it worked out to be $200+ per night. Seemed okay and I heard so much raving about W Hotel, so W Hotel in Bangkok is probably the most affordable one. Keke

Location is fantastic. We just need to cut through Sathorn Square which is directly linked to Chong Nonsi BTS, probably just 3- 5 mins walk. Mostly sheltered and accessible via escalator in the Sathorn Square Mall, so no need to climb stairs dragging those heavy luggage. Convenient or what?

Bangkok 2015 - Shopping

9:33:00 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Sharing some of the shopping places that I went. I bought most stuff from Union Mall, so I shall now declared it as my favourite mall in bangkok (last time it was Platinum Mall). ^______^

1) Chatuchak/ JJ Market
BTS: Mo Chit, Exit 1
Saturday and Sunday - 9am to 6pm; Friday - 6pm to 12am

Came here with a broken sandal and so my first purchase was a pair of slippers for just 50baht. Flip flop is still the most 'reliable' footware.

So big is this market that I NEVER ONCE try to cover the whole area. But if you want, do get a map at the entrance.

There are alleys leading to more lanes of mini stalls/shops. You probably need to bring 'gadgets' like mini fan, hat, shades to keep yourself cooling. I can never tahan the heat, coupled that the lanes are so cramped.

Bangok 2015 - Silom Thai Cooking School & Escape Hunt

10:40:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Besides the usual itinerary to just shop and eat in Bangkok, I signed up for the evening class at Silom Thai Cooking School. Email them at info@bangkokthaicooking.com if you are interested. =)

There are 3 classes in the day and each class is about 2-3 hours, depending on how fast your instructor lah. Mine was done within 2 hours and we still had time for a foot massage after dinner. =)

We paid 900 baht per pax for the evening classes, which I felt was reasonable for a 5 course dinner. Basically, we cooked our own dinner, one meal settled!

Bangkok 2015 - Food!

10:37:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

If I have to state a percentage of how we spent our time in bangkok, it probably goes something like 50% food, 30% shopping, 15% massage and 5% other activity. So, sharing some of the food that we had there. =)

The Best of Noodle Boat
BTS: Victory Monument, Exit 4
Direction: Just follow the sky walk from the Exit 4 and you should be able to see the canal and the row of  boat noodles stalls located on the left side. We took the Exit 3, which was supposed to be a shorter route but it was harder to spot the canal at ground level. So although taking Exit 4 will be slightly longer, it's an easier route to walk and you can take pictures of the Victory Monument on the way.

Bangkok 2015 - Asiatique and Sky Bar@ Lebua at State Tower

12:20:00 AM Unknown 0 Comments

I just came back from Bangkok over the weekend, a short 5D4N trip! It was a less 'tedious' itinerary compared to my other trips, as we mainly just eat and do foot massage. =)

Redeemed my krisflyer points quite some time ago, well before the bombing incident. Both hotel and SQ did offer a reschedule but merely extending it till October. We dont see how going in October will be much safer, so we decided to just go ahead.

Everything was back to normal, except that there was bag check at all BTS & MRT stations as well as the shopping malls. Talking about the transport system, I was pretty impressed. I think I too long never visit Bangkok liao. In this trip, we commuted around mainly using MRT and BTS, except for just a few trips using taxi.

Not sure what's the difference between MRT and BTS, but they dont share the same fare system. So although we had the rabbit card (similar to our ezlink card) for our BTS rides, we had to purchase the MRT rides separately. A bit troublesome, but it was okay since most of the places we went are nearby BTS stations.

********

We took the late noon flight to bangkok and was almost evening by the time we reached. To avoid the evening traffic jam, we took the  Airport Rail Link which is linked to Phaya Thai BTS. From there, we took BTS to Chong Nonsi where our hotel is located. All and all, we took about an hour to travel from the airport to the city. Pretty fuss free, cheap and most importantly, no JAM! I definitely opt for this option if my luggage is light and the hotel is near to a BTS station for my next trip!

Checked in hotel and off we went to grab dinner!

Asiatique
BTS: Saphan Taksin, Exit 2
Direction: Walk toward the pier ( trust your nose to lead the way) and take the free shuttle boat. Alternatively, just follow where most people are walking toward to.

To be frank, when Honey Creme first launched in Singapore, I was really excited to try it. I was one of those who queued more than half an hour for it. My verdict after trying the signature Honey Comb ~  definitely not worth my $5.90 and my time to queue. =(

So anyway, I tried the new flavour - Pandan Gula Melaka during the long weekend and I LUV it!

Korea 2015 - Nonhyeon / Express Bus Terminal / Banpo Rainbow Bridge

6:10:00 PM Unknown 5 Comments

Nonhyeon/Express Bus Terminal

Since we were going Express Bus Terminal Underground Mall (wah kao, so wordy =p) aka GoToMall for shopping, we dropped by Sino-Nonhyeon Food Alley for dinner. There are so many restaurants and all looking so tempting! If we have more days here, we probably be back here for more meals.

Sino-Nonhyeon Food Alley
Subway/ Directions:
Nonhyeong Station -  Go out exit 2  and take a left into the first alley. Walk for about 50 m and you'll see the food alley
Sinnonhyeon Station -  Go out exit 3 and walk straight for about 130m. Take a right after Haengbokhan Pharmacy (행복한 약국) and for about 50m and you'll see the food alley.

Korea 2015 - Everland/Gangnam

11:32:00 AM Unknown 0 Comments

I went to both Lotte World and Everland like 10 years ago when I went Korea with my family in a package tour. Decided to revisit Everland since we didnt really get a chance to take any rides previously.

The journey to Everland took us almost 2 hours plus (includes 5 transfer to subway/rail lines). Alternatively, you can consider to just sign up the bus shuttle from Funko Fantastic Korea to save the hassle of transferring so many lines. And if you choose the "harder" way to go Everland like us, dont forget to refer to the discount coupons in the official website.

Everland Theme Park
Subway: Jeondae Everland Station (last stop) on Yongin Ever Line
Direction: Proceed to take the shuttle bus (free of charge) from Yongin Ever Line and go to Everland or Caribbean Bay.
Queuing for the shuttle bus, which thankfully was quite fast and frequent.

Korea 2015 - Busan

10:01:00 PM Unknown 1 Comments

Busan

We didnt really spend a lot of time at Busan as firstly, I fell sick going there and secondly, it was raining on the 2nd day and so we cut short our time at Busan and went back to Seoul. =(

How to go Busan from Seoul

Option 1: Book the regular Korail train online (Use OCBC Frank Card to enjoy 6% cash rebate!). A return ticket costs about 100,000 won per pax.

Option 2: Book the KR pass online. A 3 day pass costs 83,700 won per pax under Saver (for 2-5 pax per group).  For this option, you need to change the eticket to the Korail ticket, which can be done at any of the KTX station. You can choose your seats (if available) when you have converted the tickets.

Obviously, we took the option 2. However, our trip to Busan clashed with the public holiday, so many people were going Busan and all the seats were full! We ended up with 'standing tickets' lor. Imagine standing for 2.5hours for the whole journey. I reckon I fell sick because of poor ventilation in the train as we can only find space to stand in the passage way connecting the cabins where the luggage/toilets were. In short, there was no dedicated standing cabin and standing all the way to Busan was a bad decision. So on our way back, we were glad to secure seat numbers coz the thought of standing 2.5hr back to Seoul was bad enuff.

Korea 2015 - Dongdaemum

4:46:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Dongdaemun

Doota
If you love shopping, you definitely wont miss out Dongdaemun, a commercial district comprising of traditional markets and shopping malls.

Subway: Dongdaemum History & Culture Park, Exit 14
Direction: The exit will lead to Goodmorning City basement. The rest of the malls, APM, Migliore and Doota are lined up side by side along the main road.

Personally, I only like APM and Migliore. Goodmorning City looks like an abandoned mall, so other than cutting through it to go to the other malls, dont bother to spend time there. LOL

Both APM and Migliore are huge, basement are usually for shoes; level 1 - 3 are for woman fashion, male fashion are level 4 & 5 ( I think, didnt go beyond level 4). Prices can be 'negotiated', will be cheaper than the price tags, so dont be 'intimidated'!

Doota is more upscaled, but there's a Line pop-up store if you are a fan of Line characters! In fact, I saw the store at both Everland and Garosugil. Looks like the Korean adore Line characters. Hee.

Korea 2015 - Yangpyeong / Jongno

11:40:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

We were going to the 'countryside' of Seoul to do strawberry picking! Was looking very forward to it! And because of the strawberry picking, I needed to make rearrangement of the itinerary a few times, and can only finalised the details at the very last minute, which is totally not my style lah. But dont worry, I've got the name card of the farm that I went, which should help those who are keen to go on their own as currently, there is not a lot of information online, or not in english.

I'm quite OCD when it comes to itinerary planning; will check and double check to make sure no waste of time by more efficient travelling around, all my tickets are booked on the right dates etc. And I probably cant tahan if I dont have an itinerary planned for my trips. Having said that, I would change the itinerary on a daily basis, coz too 'ambitious' so will need to sacrifice some items.. very old liao, cannot chiong like last time. Keke

Starting the day with a good ginseng chicken!

Koryeo Samgyetang (고려삼계탕)
Address: Seoul, Jung-gu, Seosomun-dong 55-3
Subway: Cityhall, Exit 10
Direction: Go straight for about 100m. It is located at the first alleyway on the right.

Korea 2015 - Anguk/Insadong

11:06:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Anguk/Insadong

Started a brand new day in search for Hanjeongsik! Heh, too much influence from the drama, da chang jin lah.. keke
Hanjeongsik is a full-course Korean meal with an array of savory side dishes. The most lavish of hanjeongsik traditional originated with the banquets served in the royal palaces or the homes of aristocrats.
Jirisan Restaurant (지리산)
Address: 서울특별시 종로구 인사동14길 30 (30, Insadong 14-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul)
Subway: Anguk, Exit 6
Direction: Go straight 100m and turn left at the intersection. Walk along Insadong-gil Road and turn left onto Insadong 14-gil. Go 120m to the end of the alleyway and turn left.  Jirisan is 30m ahead on the right.

The restaurant was not that difficult to find. Once you exit the station, walk in the direction of Insadong's walking street where you can find lotza Korea souvenirs such as keychains, magnets etc. And turn left into Insadong 14-gil, a small alley on your left.

Savour 2015

12:36:00 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Attending my first Savour 2015 on 26 March 2015!

We were pretty early and it was actually not very crowded. I thought it was probably due to the passing of Mr Lee in that week ; I was feeling a bit 'guilty' to attend a food event when everyone else was mourning.... :x

But as the night fell, the crowd started pouring in.  Was I mountain turtle or what, but this was the first time I knew about this gourmet food festival event.

Quoted from Savour website:

What is SAVOUR all about?

The SAVOUR concept remains the only one of its kind in Singapore; a relentless pursuit to unite the best in food and drink with a wide range of unique activities that is accessible to all.

Over 18,000 foodie comrades gathered at SAVOUR's alfresco event venue last year to indulge in Michelin star and award winning cuisine from Singapore and around the world. The 2015 line-up of restaurants will feature over 50 signature dishes will be on offer for you to create your very own culinary adventure.

The event venue also includes a gourmet market showcasing a plethora of food and drink exhibitors, celebrity chef masterclasses, a hands-on cooking studio, wine workshops and other themed areas. All workshops, tastings and demonstrations are conducted by renowned experts and are complimentary, on a first-come, first-served basis.

We bought the tickets online at $60+ per pax after DBS credit card 10% discount. In exchange, we got a value card with $30 credit which was to be used to make payment at the stalls. *Choked* Really gourmet fare, we felt that it was really expensive and prayed hard that $30 will be sufficient to feed our stomach.

Lots of seating area at the F1 pit building where the annual event was been held this year. Free seating so just grab any empty seat after you got your food.

This was also where we got a free glass of Badoit, which is a French brand sparkling water. Oh well, I just dont like sparkling water.

We came with an expectation that portion will be decent and $30 per pax was enough for a dinner. SALA!
Portion was slightly bigger than sampling size and each portion costs about $10+?

With our total $60 credit, we took a while to decide what to order. Our criteria? Stuff that looked filling enough. =_=

Lobster Mac & Cheese from & SONS
Cornflake-crusted Fried Triple-Stacked Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich from Park Bench Deli
Combo (Ribs + Salad + Fries) from Spathe Public House
Lewis's Smoked Baby BBQ Pork Ribs
Garlic Fries & Slow Cooked Octopus Salad

My favourite was the garlic fries & octopus salad. The salad was really refreshing besides been so photogenic! But the pork ribs tasted really weird and the meat was rather tough. The Mac & Cheese was okay I guess. The sandwich really tasted like sandwich (Dubz!), I was expecting much more from its complicated and long name. Overall, food that we had chosen was pretty passable.

Anyway speaking from my experience, come here with a mindset that you are trying out gourmet food from Singapore (majority) and all over the world and not to do a feast of sampling a variety of gourmet food. Ok maybe not, you can do a feast here but be prepared to pay more than $60+ ( entrance fee).

After our not so satisfying dinner and we were determined not to spend a single cent more, we explored the rest of the area.

We went inside this dome-shaped indoor where cooking studio ( have to sign up in advance) and celebrity chef auditorium was held. No idea how to sign up since I didnt really read through the website, it was a last minute decision to attend Savour 2015.
We got to decorate our free donut...
And I thought mine was really nice! Heehee
More seating areas....

Next we went to Jason Market at the 2nd floor where there was cooking demonstration, vegetable & fruits produce, meat, wine etc

There were also live seafood! You can buy the seafood and they would do the cooking, I guess at an extra cost? Remember I said we were determined not to spend extra money?
But we finally 'gave in' and paid extra for this icecream served in coconut. The ice-cream was really milky, just the way we liked it! Our best 'food' that we had on that day! =p
