The King Louis Grill & Bar

Time really flies.. It's now 1 Jan 2010!

Did you manage to achieve all your goals and resolutions in 2009? If not, well, there's always 2010, 2011, 2012 etc.. =p

I dun really believe in setting resolutions in the new year. Well, you can say I have no long term goals. But I rather live my life as it comes. Things will change, people will change, your thinking will change.. so why should I set a goal which might eventually need to be changed? Hahaha...

Ok, anyway before this entry gets very "expired", let me do a quick review of King Louis where I had my Chrismas dinner. =)

The Christmas Menu

There were 3 sets of Christmas Banquets which consisted of Meats Only, Seafood Only and Meats & Seafood. The pricing were $58++, $68++ and $78++ per pax respectively. It was kinda expensive but I was attracted to the variety so we decided to still give it a try and took the third option.

The place was nicely decorated and we were given a seat facing the Sentosa. Not that the construction was nice to look at, but at least there was some night scenary? Keke

We were the few to reach early, which explained why the resturant was quite empty. But it was easily filled up as the night approached.

 Red or White Wine

We were served the wine which was part of the banquet. The wine was not fantastic and tasted weird after some time, so we dint finish it.

Portobelle Mushroom Served With Apple Capsicum Salad

I loved Portobelle Mushroom and so I simply adored this dish. When it was served, I thought that it was a piece of duck meat, until I looked at the menu again. Keke. A pity that we were only given one each, nothing more.

Signature Mushroom Soup

Toasted Garlic Bread

Mushroom soup was nice, so far so good...

Signature Salad

The salad was made up of potato, rasins, vege and onions ( yucks!). Apparently, the dressing consisted of wasabi or some spicy thingy. Overall, the salad was a bit too spicy for my liking and I dislike onions.

Platter of Meat & Seafood for 2

Roasted Beef with Red Wine Sauce

Roasted Honey Baked Ham with Pineapple Sauce

Roast Turkey

Green Mussels and Pan Fried Scallops

Oven Baked King Prawns and Mozzarella Cheese

At first, we thought the platter was a bit little for the price that we paid. But surprisingly, we were really full and cant finish everything.

One thing I thought the service can be better ~ they should serve the platter after we had finished the soup and salad. First of all, the table was not big enough to contain 2 soups, wines, water mugs, salad plus the platter. Perhaps they were trying to create a food spread presentation on our pathetic table? It did, but we were like trying to finish the soup fast so that we can have more room for movement without spilling or breaking anything.

Secondly, the platter was served not hot. Probably because, the platter was already pre-prepared before we came. Coz I noticed that for those who came later than us, they had their platter served much later than the soup, that means the first batch of pre-prepared platter had been all served hence the chefs would need more preparation/cooking time before the platter can be served again.

Food wise, the meat was passable ~Turkey and beef was not tough, just good enough. The ham was good. The seafood was okay. But then, that was the problem. Nothing really left a memorable impression. All was just average, and obviously overpriced.

Signature Pastries ~ Chocolate Cake

The cake just tasted chocolately lor... haha

*******

I think the food was just normal. I took a glance of the ala carte menu for normal days, quite expensive as well. Then again, the decoration and the concept of the resturant is indeed innovative, but how long can it last? Perphaps they need to come up with more economical items in their menu, or dished up really royalty food to warrant their pricing. Haha, at least for me to revisit lor.... =p

Orchard Ion Basement 4

I'm on leave today! ^_^

No plans, basically a "nua-ing" day... Did some "cooking" in Facebook, msn-ing and now blogging lor... =)

I went to watch Avatar, Sherlock Holmes and Alvin & the Chipmunks 2 in December. After so long, finally there were great movies to watch!

Avatar is a very interesting story, a romantic one also, that showed that love is beyond size? Keke.  Sherlock Holmes is the typical investigation storyline and the thrill accelerates as the mysteries get solved one by one. Alvin & the Chipmunks 2 is just adorable, especially Theodore and Eleanor! Do try to catch all three!

*********

I took these pictures quite some time ago, in one of my first few visits to Orchard Ion. In fact, I thought the basement 4 is a much more "exciting" food hangout place compared to those resturants above it..

I went with my fren, thinking of having "small bites" with cheaper options. But the food were all so interesting that the small bites ( and their cost) ended up quite significant.. Hahahha

These were Japanese steamcakes, similiar to those colourful steamcakes sold in the night markets. They came in many flavours such as azuki, pumpkin, chocolate etc and best eaten when they were still hot.

These were Japanese mochi. Think they were so so only. I find the mochi balls a bit tough, not chewy enuff for my liking.

This was the Rrrrrrrr burger, brought in by a male artist from Channel 8. The burger was said to contain collagen. I dunno about that, cant feel my face become more elastic after finishing the burger. But it tasted like those chinese Kun Ba Bao ( if you know what I mean.. =p).... Well, taste wise, not too bad..

One of my favourite! The crepe was super nice lor... I dun like to eat crepe that got soggy after a while, but this one, it dint! Or at least it tasted good even when it got soggy, coz of the ice cream. I ordered the Mix Berry, which contained vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and lotza of berries. Serving was generous and felt super happy after the delicious dessert! Hehehe

After trying the taco balls here, you wont wanna eat from those normal stalls. Here, reminded me of the taco balls that I tried at Osaka. It was really that good..

Each ball was filled with big squid and other fillings...

I can finish 1 box of 6 taco balls on my own.. so it showed how much I luv it! =p

If you havent try it, you are missing a lot! Go get it now!

********

This shall end off my last entry for the year 2009! Thanks for all the support and I hope that you enjoy your visit here and do come back for more!

A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL &

Hi Tea Rose Veranda

I have went to Shangri-La, The Line for a couple of times, but I never know that there is another fantastic place right above it!

I must say, I prefer Rose Veranda over The Line. Dun get me wrong, The Line is still good for its wide spread of fresh seafood, meats, dim sum, salad, desserts and many more. I will still go to The Line if I feel like pigging out like nobody business and when I get my paycheck. Coz, it isnt very cheap...haha

On the other hand, Rose Veranda offers a much classy ambience with comfortable armchairs and a less crowdy setting, yet with a reasonable spread. It offers more of hi tea spread with a choice of 120 teas. Definitely great for gals gathering, whereby you can chit chat over cups of tea with nice savories and desserts. You can just eat leisurely (Weekday Hi Tea from 11.30 - 6pm) without the need to "choke" yourself with food.

Remember I have posted an entry earlier, saying that Shangri La is having this 38% discount for its dining? How could I miss out this great opportunity??? Keke

So all in all, I only have to pay less than $30 for the Hi Tea buffet on a weekday, and we have spent close to 3 hours there. I mean even if you are full oreadi, you can just sit there, have nice tea, while relaxing and chit chat with your friends. Superb experience.

The place is so pretty! High ceiling with red chandeliers, waitresses in cheongsams ( high slits? keke), comfortable armchairs... We felt like we can just stay here for hours while time past...

A wide variety of tea for selection. Did I mention that it is not just 1 choice per person.. it's free flow and you do not have to finish 1 pot before you try another. Cool huh? We must have try at least 5 different kinds ranging from black tea, green tea to fruity infusion etc

All the teas were served in pretty teapots and teacups.. It added on to the superb hi-tea experience!

~*~ The Savory ~*~

Sashimi & Sushi

Mini Burgers

Chicken with Mango

I kind of like this dish, the chicken was tender and it was cooked with my favourite food => Mango!

Seafood in Creamy Sauce

This was another great dish. The prawns, squids and big mussels totally soaked up the creamy sauce, without being too overwhelming. Really nice.

Ox Tail Soup

Surprisingly, this was quite tasty even though it looked oily. Hahaha..

Pumpkin Soup

Well, this was a bit too diluted for my liking... Nothing is perfect, I guess... =p

From left to right: Stew Beef, Curry Vegetables, Mee Goreng

All were spicy stuffs, so I dint try these lah...

Roast Meat Station ~ Turkey and Chicken

Xmas without roasted meat? You must be kidding! =p

How about Turkey in Cranberry Sauce and Roasted Chicken? I tried the Turkey only, which was quite good, not tough at all and I simply love cranberry sauce. Yummy!

Roasted Chicken

Spanish Quinch

One of my fav here.. Really like the crust, baked to perfection!

For more savory items, scroll to the end for the slide show.. ^_^

Do look at the slide show for more pictures.. ^_^

Hillary Inn

My fren suggested to check out Hillary Inn as it offers tarot reading service, other than the normal dine-in.  Well, sound interesting huh? At least, it seems to be first of its kind in Singapore...

Cafe from outside

It looks ordinary from the outside,  not apparent that they provide the "extra service"...

And you nod your head with me.. Yeah, now you know huh? Keke

And the name Hillary sounds like an ang mo guy. Who will thought that it offers floral/ fruit tea , snow ice and tarot reading?? Totally mismatch lah! =p

Cafe from inside

*********

We were just curious about the tarot reading, so we dint plan to have a full meal here. Anyway, the menu is kind of limited. Variety is not impressive if you ask me.

Well the "lure" is not on the variety, but rather the concept. Beside tarot reading, the food is categorised  into different elements, namely fire, water, earth, gold and wood. There is also this chart that recommends you the elements that are suitable for you according to your blood group.

A quick summary of the various blood types, quoted from the menu:

O Group:
Recommended: Meat, seafood; Water, Earth, Gold
Not Recommended: Bread, noodles, biscuit, pork, dairy products ( Shit, I loved dairy products! ~_~) etc; Fire, Earth, Wood

A Group:
Recommended: Vegetable, grains, beans; Wood, Earth, Fire
Not Recommended: Beef, pork, mutton, dairy products, eggs etc ; Gold, Water

B Group:
Recommended: Vegetables, fruits, low fat dairy products, eggs, fish etc; Water, Earth, Fire
Not Recommended: Chicken, duck, pork, shelled seafood, corn, nuts etc ; Gold, Earth, Wood

AB Group:
Recommended: Low fat dairy products, vegetables, tea, tofu, fish etc; Wood, Gold, Fire
Not Recommended: Chicken, duck, pork, corn, shelled seafood etc ; Water, Earth, Wood

Dun ask me why are some of the elements in both the "Recommnended" and "Not Recommended" list... I also dunno! I went to this place quite some time back liao lah.. how to remember? If you are there, maybe you can ask and let me know, so that I can update this entry. Hehe

Floral/Fruit Tea - $7.80

The floral/fruit tea was normal, and you can probably share it with another fren.

California Charcoal Grape Vinegar - $2.50

I heard that fruit vinegar is good for complexion, so I was quite keen to try when I realised they sell vinegar shots here. It is very expensive, selling at $2.50 for the amount  which I can  easily gulp down in a mouthful. That was precisely why I choose to drink it sip by sip, as least try to "prolong" the drinking mah... It's a method to hypnotize myself !! LOL

Taste wise, a bit sweet and sour, which was very refreshing. I liked it, but I will like it even better if they charge less or give a bigger portion. The shot will be served together with a big ice cube, coz some people may find it too acidic to drink it "on the rocks". But if you like it, then drink it all before the ice melts lah!

Btw, they also sell the vinegar by bottles as well, but I find it too expensive to buy. Cant remember how much exactly, but if you are keen, just ask the staff bah..

To remain youthful is such an expensive chore!! ~_~

Baby Clam Chowder - $7.80

My fren ordered the soup to try. Again, I need to stress here ~ food and beverage are probably not their selling point. Need I say more?

***********

Ok, let's just move on to the more "interesting" part ~ Tarot Readings

If you are keen to have your tarot readings, you can just approach the staff. I cant remember the full price list, but as a gauge, my fren choose the cheapest option, which is $18 for one question.

Heh, I can also read your "future" if you are going for the readings.. You gonna be much poorer! HAHHAHA.. =p

The reading was conducted by this young taiwanese lady (I think so, coz of her accent). She will ask you to pick some cards, then from the cards she will briefly talk about your past, present and future. Well, it's not really strictly one question and answer. Rather, you can probably probe a bit more here and there, but of coz, about the same topic lah. The whole session will take place in a private room, and probably took about 30mins.

Is it accurate? Give me a few months, probably I can update this entry coz my fren still waiting for the future predictations to come true... =)

In short, food and beverage are passable, in fact probably can give it a miss. However, if you like to try out  the tarot readings, why not? For the sake of curiosity and fun...

Anyway, more of my new gadgets next time, let's get down to  "business.".. lol

I have the following items for sale, so do quote me your best price if ya interested. Willing to let go as long as price is reasonable. My aim is not to make profit out of the sales but rather to get rid of stuff that I dun need and which are still in working condition. They need a new "owner"!!

Definitely good condition as I seldom play it, since I have similar games in my iphone. Haha..

3) Brand New Canon Photo Printer 720 - Price: $80

亲爱的老板,

当我仰望你时

期盼一片浮木

却是一块重石

让我沉入谷底

Dear Boss,

But I was given a boulder, and I sank to the seabed "
