Conclusion for 2012

4:44:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

As the clock ticks away, we are getting closer to the new year.  Have you fulfill what you want in 2012 and are there any regrets?

Looking back in 2012, my major change was the update of my FB status from "single" to "married". Married life has been good ~ I have a walking ATM and a 24hr x 7 days chauffeur! LOL. Well, other than the "materialistic" benefits, it does feel more assuring knowing that there will always be someone supporting you when making major decisions.  Hey, that's why the song - Two Is Better Than One ( a popular wedding songs by Taylor Swift + Boys Like Girls)

Come next year, it will also be an exciting year as we will get our keys to our loft! Yeah, time to "fulfill" a little dream of mine! I have considered interior design as a career however given up as the practical side got the better of me. *Shrugged*

Next year holiday plans have been confirmed ~ Jeju/Seoul/HK and Shenzhen (so look out for my travel posts)! Probably going for  a staycation too and if I manage to get the company's chalet, yup, another chalet stay with friends.

Although it has been raining whole day,  hopefully it does not dampen your moods! Whether you decide to celebrate with your loved ones at home or choose to party all night at the following:

Siloso Beach Party
Celebrate 2013
Supernova Countdown Party
Hilltop Celebration at The Jewel Box

I wish all a HAPPIER NEW YEAR and thank you for reading my blog. ^_^

Unprofessional Striptease - Beware!

9:12:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

It was my gal fren's Hen Party and we decided to hire a striptease in the name of fun, nothing sensual.  We just wanted to have a good laugh and made it a memorable gathering other than just having drinks and games.

Anyway, so  I hired this 'Ken' striptease, who made us waited from 10pm - 2am! He simply just MIA without any good explanation. Fine if he decided to chicken out, but he should be responsible enough to tell us earlier! Grrr

Our sms exchange (me in pink font and the striptease in blue font. Do not comment on the grammer & spelling! Com'on, its sms =p):

10.16pm: Are u reaching soon? One of my frens needs to go off

10.24pm: Hi I'll be pretty late for tonight. How about 12am? So sorry about the change. Let me know again. Thks, Ken!

Create Your Style Workshop with Xiaxue

12:40:00 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Attended a collaboration event between Nuffnang and Swarovski today, which was exciting coz I got to bring home a DIY Swarovski necklace home.... Freeeee! Keke

All I did is just register myself on the website and gave a reason why I wanted to attend the workshop. Easy right? Guess I was lucky too, coz only 15 bloggers were chosen! Thanks Nuffnang!

Okay, let me start off with a little background on Swarovski. There are basically 2 arms ~ one arm is the finished consumer goods where you can buy ready products off the shelves. The other arm is the  loose crystals where you can flaunt your creativity by creating your very own unique jewellaries!

So what can you do with Swarovski elements?

Rome, Italy - Place of Interest

12:15:00 AM Unknown 2 Comments

For convenience sake, we bought the OMNIA Ticket which offers the following:

- Free metro transport
- Vatican city pass
- Roma Christian open buses
- Audio guide
- Access to Coliseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill and more...

And guess what? The metro was down when we were in Roma! Grrr... Ok, there was free shuttle buses, but it was so packed and the ventilation was poor, making travelling around less pleasant. Anyway, we managed to visit most of the must-visit sites, despite going back to the B&B in the afternoon to keep ourselves cool with the air-con. =p

Here goes!

1) The Colosseum

Address: Coliseum, Piazza del Colosseo, Rome, Italy ( Metro stop: Colosseo, Line B) Opens every day of the year, except Christmas Day & New Year's Day, opens at 8.30am.

Last sunday of March - end August: 7.15pm
September: 7pm
October: 6.30pm
November - February 15: 4.30pm

We came to the last stop of our honeymoon trip ~ Roma! By the time, we were already missing food in Singapore and the super hot weather in Roma made it worse. =(

*Made a mental note ~ never go on trip during summer!*

The train journey from Florence to Roma was just 1.5 hours and it was another 5 - 10 minutes to our B& B, Flowerome.

Reckless Driver!

9:40:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Almost got into an accident at the main road in front of Khatib MRT, at about 4.40pm today.  This Trans Cab driver was initially in the middle lane but suddenly steered to the right to the first lane, i.e. our lane ( we were going straight ). Husband got to brake and stopped the car. Such reckless and irresponsible behavior and what's more, there was  a passenger in the taxi as well! Please beware of this cab driver of SHC5858Z!

My husband also told me that he was almost hit just recently because a lorry from the opposite traffic turned right when my husband was going straight. Such basis rule and yet the lorry driver cannot followed!

And how about the recent case of the China driver whose reckless behavior caused the death of 3 lives (including his own)?

I personally feel that all drivers should have a refresher test for both theory and practical every 3 - 5 years! Having a driving license doesn't meant that you are a good driver for life.

Who gives you the right to cause harm to other road users/drivers just because you have a vehicle that you cannot control? I dont care if the driver himself dies because of it, but please be responsible to other people and their families! If you are not in the condition to drive, e.g. drunk, sleepy, vision poor, then DUN DRIVE! Grrrr...

Florence, Italy - Food & Accomodation

9:00:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

We took the train from Venezia Santa Lucia (Venice train station) to Firenza S.Maria Novella (Florence station station), Florence. Train journey was about 2 hours.

We stayed in Hotel Globus, which was pretty near to the station. I forgot to take pictures of the hotel but it was decent. Again, we needed to drag the luggage up one level to the reception, after which, there was lift to take you to your floor. =)

The room came with all the necessities - TV, fridge, towels, hair dryer etc. Breakfast was included, though the variety was rather limited. Try the hot chocolate, I liked it.

Address: Via S. Antonino 24, San Lorenzo, Florence, 50123

Food

Overall, food in Switzerland & Italy was not impressive, or rather not my cup of tea. I think we are too pampered by the various kinds of cooking methods, seasoning and spices in Asia cuisine, that I find the food in my trip so far, a tad boring. *Shrugged*

But a man got to eat anyway, so here is the list of what we ate.

Venice, Italy - Place of Interest

8:35:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Initially, I thought that taking train was cheaper. But after taking into account of the traveling time (approximately 8 hr) and since budget air fare was similar to the pricing of the train ticket, we decided to just fly in Venice.  We took the Easyjet , air fare was about S$100+, including taxes and flight journey was an hr plus.

Being an island city, the best way to reach Venice is via boat. We took the public Alliaguna water taxi and the boat journey from Venice Marco Polo Airport to our B&B via Rialto stop was just an hour. As we bought the tickets on line, we got to change the evoucher to regular ticket at the Alliaguna ticketing office.

Finding the Alliaguna ticketing office was a nightmare, as the counter staff  in Venice Airport were not exactly friendly and there was no signboard to direct the way. After asking different counter staff, we finally got some idea where to head to.  The Alliaguna ticketing office is not located inside the airport, you got to exit the airport and turn to the left, where you can find a long walkway and I mean a really long walkway.  After like 10 minutes or so, we finally see the pier!! Wah lau, try walking so long with 2 big luggage in a hot weather... the 10 minutes felt like forever. =p

Travel Insurance

6:02:00 PM Unknown 2 Comments

Updates:

ACE called me to ask me to renew the travel insurance plan. I said, I'm not interested.  The caller insisted to tell me there was a 50% discount for me. I said, I bought ACE before and precisely because of that, I knew the claiming process sucks. Instead, of addressing my current concern, the caller just want to emphasize on the discount. I said, what would I want to pay the other 50% if I know I probably cannot make any claim. Finally, the caller gave up.

********

Do you remember I've mentioned that my husband lost his wallet in Switzerland? Naturally, we reported a lost at the police station ( got to pay CHF30 , approximately $40 for it!) and used that to file a claim on our travel insurance with ACE - 'Got It Covered Travel Plan'.

Guess what? We hadnt got back the claim and that was months ago.

We were asked to provide the following items besides the police report:

1) Receipt for the wallet - Who will have keep the receipt of the wallet that was bought years ago? So we gave an estimated price of $70 based on the wallet brand.

2)  Money changer receipt - Again, who will have keep the receipt after exchanging the money?

3) Proof to show that money was withdrew to exchange for the foreign currency - We provided printscreen of my bank statement which was rejected by ACE. Reason being the money belonged to me and did not belong to my husband and therefore not acceptable.

Sony Cybershot DSC TX10

Model Highlights:
  • Certified waterproof (up to 5m, 16ft)
  • Dustproof, shockproof and freeze-proof
  • 16.2-megapixel "Exmor R" CMOS sensor
  • 3.0" touch screen
  • iSweep Panorama Mode
  • Full HD 1080/60i
  • Superior Auto
Reason for selling:  I already owned 3 cameras -  Sony RX100, Sony WX1 and Panasonic G1! How many cameras can 1 person own? *Palm face*

Who to blame? I just have a soft spot for cameras, and feel itchy hand to get the latest features / models. Hey, but I've changed ~ I have not bought a new camera since last year.  *Affirmation nod*

Condition: 7/10 (Bought in Jul 2011)

Camera in good condition with minimum scratches, but the battery is faulty, probably need to get a replacement battery.  Hey I just realize my camera was still within warranty (expired in Oct 12) and so I went and got a NEW battery from Sony Care!

This camera is great for water sport / water theme park because of its waterproof feature. That's, of coz, provided if you follow the instruction aka dun open the lid for the battery when in water lah.  It's also lightweight and can hang the camera using the wrist band without breaking your wrist.  And I love Sony for its vibrant colours.  =)

Camera selling at $218 with 8Gb Sony memory card. Interested, please leave me your contact details via comment.  ^_^

We took a 2hr train from Zurich to Interlaken West, where our B&B resides. Personally, I think it's better to stay in Interlaken West as compared to Interlaken Ost as it's nearer to all the restaurants & tourist shops.

If you prefer to stay nearer to the police station, then Interlaken Ost will be a better choice. We knew because we had to 'visit' the police station to report lost of wallet. Such a spoiler when we just started our trip for 2 days only. =(

1) Rheinfall

Directions: Take train to Schaffhausen, followed by bus number 1 ( bus stop is just outside the train station) towards Neuhausen. Get off at "Zentrum" and  follow the brown signs down to Rheinfall.

It took me about 1.5hr to travel from Zurich HB ( train station) to Rheinfall. It was quite a walk from the bus stop, especially so in summer, so wear comfortable shoes ( dun say I never warn you if you insist to wear heels) and be mentally prepared to walk for about 20mins.

Zurich, Switzerland - Accomodation & Food

Flight via SQ to Zurich: FREE!

Hey, just need to accumulate Krisflyer points and you redeem a free air ticket to Europe too. =)

There are many credit cards now that tie up with Krisflyer (e.g. Citibank Premier Miles, Amex) which allow you to earn Krisflyer points as you spend. Personally, I prefer credit cards that give me direct cash rebates or Krisflyer points, rather than accumulate points in exchange for vouchers which I dont really need.

On a side note, there's limited seats for krisflyer redemption so do reserve your seats earlier. I did mine a year ago, call me kiasu but I flew for free! =p

Next, get the Swiss Half Fare card, which you can easily get it at the Zurich airport. It's much better than the Swiss Pass, at least for my purpose where I need to travel city to city in Switzerland. The Swiss Half Fare card costs CHF110, allow you to buy all train tickets, boat tickets (including the ticket to go to Jungra) for half the price and it's valid for 1 whole month. On the other hand, the Swiss Pass is only valid for a fixed number of days and cost much more. Seriously, I dunno why someone will prefer the Swiss Pass over the Swiss Half Fare card. *Shrugged*
