Noble House [Closed]
It was not my first time coming to Noble House ( Tanjong Pagar). When I was still working at DBS Building, my mentor group used to come here when the partner felt like treating.. Keke. My impression then was pretty good, nice food, nice ambience and definitely great companions!
Menu
Table Setting
I went with my bf on a Saturday morning so that we can have dim sums as brunch. The dim sum spread was not exactly elaborate compared to the ones I saw in Hong Kong, but it was fair enough.
Oh ya, before I go on, do be prepared for the "weird" spread of orders we had, because we needed to spend at least $100 to use my $50 off voucher. Therefore, we needed to order some "expensive" items on the menu. I wanted to order the "Buddha Jumps Over Wall", but alas, it must be pre-ordered as it requires a long time of preparation. I was abit disappointed but now you know la... if you are keen to try lor..
Mango Rolls - $4.50
This was basically prawn and mango wrapped in light batter. Used to be one of my favourite dish last time. Oddly, it seemed to be quite normal when I tried this again after so many years.. *Shrugged*
Pork Dumplings - $4.50
I tot the pork dumplings were a bit disappointing. Those at Ding Tai Feng are definitely way better. The skin was kinda thick, and the xiao long baos were not juicy enough.
Beef Steak - $24
This was not too bad, although a bit fatty and a bit plain without sauce and no other side dishes to go along. It looked kinda "lonely", isnt it?
Well, the price in a Western resturant can probably get me a decent steak plus 2 set dishes leh... seemed to be overpriced.
Pan Fried Turnip - $3.50
Cant remember whether this was good or bad.. I guess it was neither, just passable since I had no memory of it.. =p
Baked Cod Fish - $10
Yeah! Cod fish again! Told ya we love cod fish. =p
This was pretty good although I wont really give credits to the chef since cod fish on its own is already good, even if it is just water steamed. I know.. I'm being critical here.. But hey, I'm a paying customer hor!
Cheese Baked Lobster with Wine - $48
We were not being extravagant okie? Told you I needed to order expensive item to choke up the bill.. =p
The cheese baked lobster I imagined, was one that was served in half lobster with lotza cheese on top. This was served totally unexpected...
The lobster was chopped up into so many parts that we hardly recognize it! I enjoy pulling out whole chunk of lobster meat from its shell so that I can savour the complete sweetness in one mouthful. It was impossible since each part contained only so little meat.. I felt that the dish was quite wasted and the presentation sucks too. The worst? I was a fool, paying $48 for this... ~_~
Homemade Beancurd with Fungus - $18
We ordered this so that the lunch would not be so meaty.. Just tofu with mushrooms. Serving was a bit too much for the 2 of us though..
Mango Pomelo - $5
I guess I just need something sweet to end off my lunch as usual.. =)
*******
Overall, I felt that the standard has dropped. Most of the dishes were just normal, " can eat but not must try" items. On the other hand, Humble House has given me deep impression and there was expectation for the next dish and the next dish, in terms of presentation and taste wise. Here, it is just normal food, no wow effect.... *Yawn* and we spent $90+ after the $50 discount.. =_=
I guess it's better not to have expectations huh? Keke
