Interlaken, Switzerland - Accomodation & Food

We took a 2hr train from Zurich to Interlaken West, where our B&B resides. Personally, I think it's better to stay in Interlaken West as compared to Interlaken Ost as it's nearer to all the restaurants & tourist shops.

If you prefer to stay nearer to the police station, then Interlaken Ost will be a better choice. We knew because we had to 'visit' the police station to report lost of wallet. Such a spoiler when we just started our trip for 2 days only. =(

Accommodation

We stayed at Hotel Rugenpark, which was voted the best B&B in Interlaken in TripAdvisor. Indeed, it had impressed us in various areas:

Firstly, we received a nice card & a box of chocolate from Ursula & Chris (owners of Hotel Rugenpark) for our honeymoon stay. Such a sweet & unexpected gesture from them!

Secondly, fantastic location ~ just a couple min walking distance from the station. Room was big & clean with a balcony. The breakfast spread was not plentiful but good enough to start the day. Loved the hot chocolate!

Thirdly, Ursula took such good care of us. She helped us to book the train tickets to the mountains and recommended us places to eat. I also borrowed a winter jacket from her to go up to Jungfra - no additional charges!

Before I forget, we were given a visitor's card for free travel on the train to Interlaken Ost & vice versa. So do check with your hotel/ B&B whether they offer that. I dunno about you, but I will definitely stay in Hotel Rugenpark if I do visit Interlaken again!

Food

Bought sandwiches at Zurich train station as lunch to eat in the train to Interlaken. Less than CHF 10 each. Well, passable lah.

Something to take note in the trains ~ there will be people 'helping' you to carry your luggages onto the train cabins. We were offered twice, once from Zurich to Interlaken and another from Venice to Florence. The first time, we lost our wallet and the second time, we were asked to pay money for the 'help' given. Lesson learnt, nothing is free and so dun accept help in the trains!! Humpt!

1) Restaurant Baren

Address: Seestrasse 2, Unterseen, Interlaken, Switzerland

Our Orders:
Raclette (Swiss cheese with potatoes) - CHF 17
Cheese Fondue with mushroom - CHF 29 (price for 1 pax portion)
Coke - CHF 4.60
Total = CHF 50.60 (tax inclusive)

We were recommended by Ursula to Baren for their traditional cheese fondue. The cheese fondue was okay for us, but we dun really fancy it because it had this bitter after-taste. Hmm, likely due to the wine added into the fondue. It just us, as we realized later that cheese fondue with water suit our taste much better.

Raclette was okay, good to try once. It was mainly cheese with 3 or 4 slices of potato, tomato and silver onions. Not very satisfying as a meal on its own, but good as a side dish.

2) Bebbis Resturant

Address: Bahnhofstrasse 16, 3800 Interlaken
Website: http://www.bebbis.com/page/menues.html

Our Orders:
Schweinebraten (pork roast) - CHF 17.90
Meat Fondue - CHF 36
Beer - CHF 4
Total = CHF 57.90 (Tax inclusive)

I would say Bebbis is a very 'tourist-oriented' restaurant. The best part of it is the location, foodwise was just passable.

We tried the meat fondue, which was raw meat dipped in hot oil. You can choose between beef, pork and chicken, or a mixture. The price also came with large bowl of fries, bread and rice.

The roasted pork tasted like a chinese char siew, nothing to shut about.

Our Orders:
Alpler Makronen (macaroni with swiss cheese & apple slices) - CHF 17.90
Chocolate Fondue - CHF 16.50

We went to Bebbis twice coz we were back at Interlaken West late & tired, and  so we just opt for a nearby resturant. Tried the chocolate fondue and macaroni this time. Again, not impressive but good enough to fill our stomach.
