Check out this new hangout baby secluded in the spicy Little India, only in full operation for a month or so!

~*~ Zsofi Tapas Bar ~*~

Before I go on with what are offered at Zsofi, perhaps it's good to know how it all begun, shared by the young female boss, who is still an undergrad... ^_^

It all begun with her brother going on a Spain adventure. Well, who would be interested in a single guy on a backpack trip without some romance involved??

You want it? You got it!!

Yes, that's right! He met this ger, called Zsofi in his trip. That explained the name of the tapas bar too.

In their short encounter, they shared stories and of coz, tapas & drinks together. In order to make the whole experience more romantic & unbelievable, they decided to part without leaving any contact.. No telephone number, no MSN, no Facebook....

* Slapped forehead * You think acting ar?? And the world is not that small lor....

Oh ya, seen the drawing on the wall in the picture above? It was actually drawn out from a real photograph with Zsofi in it. The center one, squatting down..

For more details, read the full story here!

And if you happen to know Zsofi herself, why not let her know that there is this Singaporean guy, so greatly inspired by her, that he started a tapas bar in her name.... And yes, please leave her contact this time hor!

Okay, end of story-telling. Let's take a short tour around the place!

Moving up the staircase, you find yourself looking at smiling customers who had been here before, perhaps you be able to find 1 or 2 familiar faces. And needless to say, Zsofi was "hanging" there too!

Upstairs, there are plenty of cozy corners for groups of friends to just sit around, relax, have tapas & drinks, make merry together.

There seems to be a lot of drawings on the walls. I wonder whether they were drawn by the owners themselves?? Forgot to ask the owners, why not you tell me when you are there?? =p

Downstairs, there is a bar counter for loners to just drink on their own without facing the crowd. True mah, customers sitting at the bar counter are facing the bartenders only wat... Ha

And small stools and tables as well, for groups that preferred not to sit on the ground( upstair).

Finally, the main highlight => Tapas!!

Tapas is the name of a wide variety of appetizers in Spanish cuisine. The serving of tapas is thought to encourage conversation because people are not so focused upon eating an entire meal that is set before them.

And because tapas is merely small bites, be sure to have your dinner before coming here to chill out!

The tapas selection is not as extensive as I thought so, merely a choices of 10 to 12 items. But the owners are currently still experimenting, and definitely there will be more to come. Looking forward for that! ^_^

Btw, there would be a free tapas with every alcoholic drink ordered. This would mean you'll just have to pay for the price of a drink, and you get to try out their tapas for free!

I went with 5 other friends, and so we got to try out quite a number of tapas free with every drink. But of coz, each tapas was an individual serving, so dun expect a lot lah... Ai ya, 一人一半, 感情不会散!

Chorizo
Traditional spanish smoked pork sausages pan-fried in pure olive oil

Champiñones

Mushrooms marinated with herbs and white wine, gently sautéed

Spanish Salami
Hot Spanish salami, finely sliced

Croquetas de Queso con Jamón
Ham and cheese-filled crispy potato fritters

Calamares Rebozados
Salt and pepper battered calamari served with a wedge of lemon

Brochetas de Esparragos y Bacon
Young asparagus shoots wrapped with bacon strips, lightly pan fried till crispy

Gambas al Ajillo
Sizziling fresh shrimps sautéed with garlic and tomatoes

Albondigas
Homemade meatballs served with a fiery tomato sauce

Tortilla Española
Traditional Spanish potato omelette

Mixed Tapas Platter ($14)
A tasting platter of six different tapas of your choices

We decided to order another mixed platter as the free servings were really kinda small for 6 full-grown adults to share.... Hey, we need to eat okay ( even thought we had just stuffed ourselves silly at Waraku..) Keke

Anyway, the platter was also not very big... hmmm

Enough of food... Com'on, it's still a drinking place. And merry without drinks?? Are you kidding me??? =p

From left to right,
Slippery Nipple ( Sambuca & Baileys) - $9
Cock Sucking Cowboy ( Butterscotch & Baileys) - $9

Kinda sleazy names for shooters. Then again, do we need to treat everything so seriously? They are just names only, for heaven sake! So we were all game to try them!

Granada - $15
Frangelico, White Cocoa, Toblerone & vanilla ice-cream

Our favourite drink! A sweet alcoholic drink, adored by both guys & gals!

Pinata Colada - $7
Pineapple, Coconut cream & Ginger Ale

Erm, I forgotten the names of these 2 drinks.. hehe

And as though we had just came out from desert, we were really thirsty! So we ordered beer, which was currently under promotion of $25 for a bucket of 5! Cheap cheap!

**********

The " Drink + Free small bite" concept is good, and the setting is great for group gatherings. But again, the location is not that fantastic, and the drinks offered is just like other drinking places. So if you ask me, whether I like that place enough to purposely make a trip there. Perhaps not, unless I'm dining or shopping around the area. But again, it's always heart-warming for customers like us to find out more such places to hang out! Keke...
