HK Sightseeing

As we were in HK for only 3 full day, we only had 1 day to do sightseeing. Keke, coz we need to have 2 days for shopping mah =p

********

We started the day with Ngong Ping 360 which is located at Lautau Island. For directions , pricing and opening hours, please refer to its website.

I'm not a Buddhist, but I dun see the conflict of going to Ngong Ping as a tourist attraction place. In fact, it's quite interesting that they change the whole idea of a normal religious place. Quite cool huh?

The highlight of the day was of coz, the crystal cable car - A 360 degree soaring experience!

I always thought that 360 degree meant that the cable car will go around the Big Buddha and that was pretty awesome! Silly me! 360 degree just meant that you can have a 360 degree view of your surroundings in the crystal cable car. Hehe

The price difference of a standard cable car and a crystal cable car (round trip) is less than S$10, so I thought might as well go for the more unique ride since we were on holiday.
Starting our cable car journey ~ a super long 30 mins ride on the cable car! That was LOOOONG!
You can see through the floor of the cable car. Just wondering if you are wearing a dress, and the trekkers below happen to look up, will they be able to see anything? Nah... I guess not, the cable car is way too high, unless the trekkers have telescopic eyes!
As the ride continued up the mountains, it become more foggy. We were inside the clouds! Kinda scary as you cant see anything and wont be able to know where you are heading to.
Finally, we reached! Btw, the payment by VISA card for the cable car entitled us a free show - Walking with Buddha or Monkey's Tale. We had no preference and so we decided to go with the staff recommendation, i.e. the Walking with Buddha show.
Wishing Tree
The main attraction was of coz, the Big Buddha. Seeing the flights of staircase, we had initially wanted to just climb halfway & take some pictures. However, we were "challenged" & "threatened" by the grandma  & grandpa besides us who went all the way up, we were definitely not gonna give up halfway! So, we climbed all the way to the top lor.. That was a lot of climbing for just a morning! +_+

More pictures of the Big Buddha in the slideshow at the end of the post for your viewing pleasure =)
After the "exercise" in the morning, we were hungry already and proceeded to the Po Lin Monsatery for a set lunch. The ticket counter for the set meal is located at the Big Buddha area.

The set lunch is on a per headcount basis, priced at HK$70 on Sunday. If I remember correctly, it is slightly cheaper on other days. The set meal consisted of a soup, spring rolls, beancurd / corn dish & 2 vegetable dishes. No mock meat, purely vegetables, which I personally much prefered.

The dishes tasted like home-cooked food, serving was definitely generous as you can see the spread for just 2 person! Needless to say, we couldnt finish the food, which was quite wasteful. Perhaps they should have served smaller portions and allowed 2nd round of refill instead.
After lunch, it was another round of "exercise" again ~ Wisdom Path.
Final destination of Wisdom Path

To reach here, we walked for about 20min or so. It is an outdoor wooden replica of the centuries old Heart Sutra, made up of 38 wooden rectangular beams. I was impressed by how the super big beams were implanted.

That ended my Ngong Ping trip which took about 4 - 5 hours, including the queue for the cable car tickets. Since time was still early for dinner, we went to Citygate for shopping.

Me bought Crocs shoes for about S$20+, 50% cheaper as compared to Singapore! Of coz, the variety was much limited so it really depend on your luck whether you can find something you like. Bo heng sway!
I wanted to visit the outlying islands and so we decided to go Lamma Island for seafood dinner. Wanted to go Tai O as well, which is nearby to Ngong Ping, but the journey from Ngong Ping to Tai O will take about an hour. To and fro will mean 2 hour, time was not favourable and so we gave it a miss.

For the benefit of my readers, the directions to both islands:

Tai O: From Tung Chung MTR station (ie the station for Ngong Ping), take bus no 11 ( Bus journey about 50mins)

Lamma Island: Take MTR to Hongkong Station (Exit E1), walk to Central Pier and take ferry at pier no 4 (ferry journey about 20mins to both Yung Shue Wan or Sok Kwu Wan village

My fren had googled about this Rainbow resturant at Sok Kwu Wan, and so we went Sok Kwu Wan lor. Ferry cost HK25 for a single trip.
Leaving Central Pier
Reaching Lamma Island

We realised that Rainbow resturant provides free ferry service (the ferry in the background) for its diners, you just need to call to make a reservation. Argh... We 苯苯 (stupidly) bought our own ferry tickets there. More about Rainbow in my next entry. ^_^
Lamma Island
Lamma Island pier at night
Oh well, the free ferry service will stop at Tsim Tsa Tsui Pier first followed by Central Pier. Erm so in a way, we get to do some sightseeing of the night scenary on the boat since we were alighting at Central Pier, so ended up our ferry back to the pier took more than 30minutes. But I guess it's not a bad idea to admire the scenary on the ferry. =)

Next entry ~> HK FOOOOOOD!! =p

I went to Lamma Island in June too! But I alighted at the other pier and trekked 3 hours to get to the other side for seafood. You can check my blog too on my trip! :)
